Wardha man with 10 cases held under MPDA Act, lodged in Yerawada Central Jail
Raju Ramu Tumdam, 40, of Bhugaon, has been detained at Yerawada Central Jail, Pune, under the MPDA Act, with 10 cases against him since 2021.
A dangerous person living in the Sawangi (Meghe) police station area of Wardha has been sent to Yerawada Central Jail in Pune under the MPDA Act. He is Raju Ramu Tumdam, 40, a resident of Bhugaon, tehsil and district Wardha.
Sawangi (Meghe) police station records show 10 cases against Tumdam since 2021. They include abuse and assault, death threats, creating a disturbance while armed with a deadly weapon, assault causing injury, and creating a disturbance while drunk.
According to police, the man, who has been in their records since 2021, had created great fear among people in the Sawangi (Meghe) police station area. Because of this fear, many victims did not dare to file complaints against him at the police station. Public peace and law and order in the area had been disturbed and everyday life was being affected.
When his activities did not stop, a final bond for one year was taken from him under Section 129(e) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Police said he did not mend his ways even after this preventive action and kept committing offences.
Sawangi (Meghe) police station inspector Vinod Giri then prepared a proposal to detain him under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Dangerous Persons, Sand Smugglers and Persons Engaged in Black-marketing of Essential Commodities Act, 1981 (amended 2015). The proposal was sent through Wardha Superintendent of Police Saurabh Kumar Agrawal to the District Magistrate and Collector, Vanmathi C.
The District Magistrate and Collector, Wardha, issued the detention order on November 4, 2026, directing that Raju Ramu Tumdam be detained at Yerawada Central Jail, Pune. Under the order, he has now been lodged there.
To keep the peace and law and order in Wardha district and to ensure the coming Diwali festival passes peacefully, Collector Vanmathi C. and Superintendent of Police Saurabh Kumar Agrawal have again signalled that strict action will be taken under the MPDA Act against illicit liquor sellers and dangerous persons who indulge in hooliganism in society.
