Saroj Rai, a BJP corporator and E ward committee chairperson, took Kailas Nagar residents to the KDMC D ward office and demanded that water supply be made regular.
Residents of Kailas Nagar in Kalyan East have faced a serious water problem for several months. Supply is not regular, and what arrives is not enough. Locals are struggling to meet their daily needs.
Citizens have complained repeatedly, but the problem has not been resolved. Public anger against the administration is growing by the day.
Against this backdrop, Saroj Rai, chairperson of the E ward committee of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and a BJP corporator, went to the KDMC's D ward office with local residents. There they gheraoed the officials concerned and demanded answers on the water shortage in Kailas Nagar. She demanded that the problems faced by citizens be addressed urgently and that water supply be streamlined.
Residents of Kailas Nagar allege that no concrete measures have been taken despite repeated complaints. They expressed strong displeasure at not receiving satisfactory answers from officials on the supply problem. They also demanded that the administration take the issue seriously, since they have had to struggle for water for months.
The Shiv Sena and the BJP hold power in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation. Since the water problem in Kailas Nagar persists nonetheless, political discussion has begun on the issue. There is also said to be discontent among local office-bearers and workers of the ruling BJP.
Despite being in power, people have to struggle for a basic facility, and elected representatives of the ruling party themselves have to approach officials over citizens' water problem. Questions are therefore being raised about the working of the municipal administration.
Citizens are now waiting to see what steps the KDMC administration takes on the issue raised by Saroj Rai. It remains to be seen what stand senior office-bearers of the ruling party take. The question of when the water shortage in Kailas Nagar will end, and from when residents will get regular supply, remains unanswered.
