Savitribai Phule Pune University has rescheduled all exams due on Saturday, October 31, to November 11 because of traffic expected in Nashik.

Pune: All examinations scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at colleges affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) have been cancelled at short notice. The papers for various courses will not be held on that day. The university administration took the decision in haste.

The reason is an event in Nashik district, where the President is visiting and the flag-hoisting ceremony of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela is also due to be held. Heavy traffic jams are feared in the city as a result. In view of this, the university decided to push the papers back.

Dr Rajendra Talware, director of the university's Board of Examinations and Evaluation, conveyed the information through an official circular.

The university's examination department conducts exams for various graduate and postgraduate courses in the three districts of Pune, Ahilyanagar and Nashik. Papers had been fixed in all three districts on October 31. But in Nashik, a large ceremony for the hoisting of the flag of the Simhastha Kumbh Mela is being held along with the President's visit.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation commissioner had told the university that the city's traffic would come under heavy pressure and that it would be difficult for students to reach their examination centres. So that students would not face hardship, the university decided to postpone all the October 31 papers.

The exams in all subjects cancelled on October 31 will now be held on November 11. Dr Talware has clarified that all the papers of the cancelled subjects will be held on November 11 at the time already fixed in the original timetable. The timing of the papers has not changed, only the date.

The university has appealed to students to note the new date and prepare for the exams accordingly.
