The Pune Municipal Corporation has approved about Rs 4.6 crore for two projects: more CCTV cameras in its schools and underground power lines on Katraj-Kondhwa Road.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved about Rs 4.6 crore for two projects. One expands CCTV camera coverage in civic schools. The other moves overhead power lines on Katraj-Kondhwa Road underground. Together, the two amounts add up to about Rs 4.6 crore.
About Rs 2 crore has been set aside for installing more cameras in the corporation's own schools. The work is expected to be completed within eight months.
The second project will cost about Rs 2.6 crore. Overhead power lines on Katraj-Kondhwa Road will be taken underground, on the stretch from Abhay Aranya Society to Shivshambho Nagar Lane No. 1. The corporation has set a deadline of nine months for this work.
The school project aims to improve children's safety. With a network of cameras on school premises, it is easier to see who is coming and going, and action can be taken quickly if something goes wrong.
The cable work is part of an effort to improve road infrastructure. Hanging wires along crowded roads take up space and can also be dangerous in rain or strong winds. If the wires go underground, roads can be clearer and safer.
With the approval in place, both projects can now move ahead. Before work begins on the ground, the corporation is expected to follow the usual process of inviting bids and selecting contractors. The approval is the first step, and the actual work will be visible on the ground only after contractors are chosen.
Civic works in Pune have often run past their deadlines. The eight-month and nine-month timelines will therefore be watched, and the key question is whether the PMC can complete both projects on time.
