Pune registered 2,420 electric vehicles between October 27 and November 5, 2026, against 1,490 in a ten-day festive period last year.

Registrations of electric vehicles (EVs) in Pune have jumped by more than 62 per cent this festive season, showing that people increasingly prefer battery-powered vehicles.

A total of 2,420 electric vehicles were registered in the city between October 27 and November 5, 2026. In comparison, 1,490 were registered in the ten days from October 9 to 18, 2025.

According to Regional Transport Office (RTO) data, electric vehicles accounted for about 9 per cent of all new vehicle registrations in the same festive period last year. This year the share has risen to 17.4 per cent, nearly double in a year. More than one in every six new vehicles now registered in Pune is electric.

The trend is most visible in two-wheelers, which make up the largest share of EV registrations. Registrations of electric two-wheelers rose from 1,089 last year to 1,899 this year, an increase of about 74 per cent. Their share of total two-wheeler registrations rose from 10.7 per cent to 20.5 per cent. This means one in every five new two-wheelers registered is now electric. Two-wheelers accounted for about 78 per cent of all EV registrations in this period.

Registrations of electric cars have also gone up. Their number rose from 350 last year to 429 this year, an increase of about 23 per cent. In the same period, the share of electric cars in total car registrations rose from 8.3 per cent to 13.2 per cent.

The registration figures show that the adoption of electric vehicles is growing across different types of vehicles. It is not limited to private vehicles and is also visible in passenger and goods transport vehicles. Rising fuel prices and growing awareness of eco-friendly options appear to be prompting buyers to consider electric vehicles over petrol and diesel ones.

The festive season figures point to a gradual shift in people's preferences in Pune. If charging infrastructure expands and access to charging becomes easier, the pace of adoption of electric vehicles could pick up further in the coming years.
