A fire broke out in the meter room of E-wing of Tinsel Country society in Hinjewadi Phase on Friday morning, October 23, 2026, causing panic among residents. Security staff, members of the management committee and residents brought the fire under control with fire extinguishers before the fire brigade arrived.
According to residents, the incident took place between about 7.15 and 7.30 am. People in the vicinity said they heard three loud sounds like explosions, after which smoke was seen coming out of the meter room. A security guard who saw this informed the society's manager and committee members.
Residents and committee members rushed to the spot as soon as they were told. The society's electrician switched off the main power supply to prevent further damage. The fire was then put out with fire extinguishers. A fire brigade team reached the spot at about 8 am and inspected the site.
Residents are now worried about electrical safety, as a team of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) had installed a new electricity meter there only two days before the fire.
Residents said the society is more than five years old and there had been no such electrical incident there earlier. They have demanded an inquiry into the cause of the fire and a review of the recent meter installation work.
Neerav Shah, a resident of Tinsel Country, said, "We are worried about this incident, especially because a new meter was installed just two days ago. The society's electrical system had been running for more than five years without any such incident. We want the electricity department to conduct a thorough inquiry and find the exact cause of the fire, and to fix responsibility if any negligence is found."
Residents have also demanded that the meter room, wiring panel and electrical connections be inspected to ensure that the work was done safely and that such an incident does not recur.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet emerged. Residents are seeking a formal review from the electricity department.
