Pune, October 24, 2026: Friday night was the coldest of the season in Pune. Skies were clear and dry winds blew from the north, pulling the night temperature down. The mercury dropped to 16.8 degrees Celsius at NDA, while Shivajinagar recorded a minimum of 18.5 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also recorded figures for other parts of the city. The minimum temperature was 18.6 degrees Celsius at Pashan and 19.6 degrees Celsius at Lohegaon. Chinchwad recorded 22.9 degrees Celsius, while Magarpatta recorded 22.4 degrees Celsius.
IMD scientist S.D. Sanap explained the reason for the chill. "The sky is clear at night and there are few clouds, so radiative cooling is taking place and the minimum temperature is falling," he said. He added that the minimum temperature is likely to remain mostly steady for the next two to three days. After that, it will rise as humidity increases.
This means the cold is unlikely to deepen further in the coming days. A weather system is forming over the Bay of Bengal, and temperatures are expected to climb gradually once its moisture reaches the region.
Though the nights are cool, the days will stay warm. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday. On October 26, it may ease to 34 degrees Celsius. By October 28 and 29, it is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius. Over the same period, the minimum temperature may rise to between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius.
The weather department said a low-pressure area over the east-central and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal persisted on Friday. It is likely to strengthen further on Saturday and turn into a depression.
