Two brothers and their sister were found dead in a locked flat in Global City, Virar West; police suspect poisoning, with the cause to be confirmed by post-mortem.

Three siblings were found dead in a locked rented flat in Global City, Virar West, in Palghar district. Police suspect they died by suicide after consuming poison. The actual cause of death will be clear only after the post-mortem report.

The deceased are Kumar Mansukhlal Mehta (50), Dipesh Mansukhlal Mehta (52) and Khevna Mansukhlal Mehta (48). The two brothers and their sister had been living together in the flat in the Garden Avenue complex since 2025.

The matter came to light when residents of the complex began to notice a strong smell coming from the flat. They complained to the society secretary, who informed Boisar police. When police officers reached the spot, the flat was locked from inside, so they broke open the door. The bodies inside were badly decomposed. A senior officer said the deaths probably occurred three to four days earlier.

According to police, Kumar was battling cancer, while another sibling was described as paralysed. The family was in financial distress. Officials said they had been unable to arrange money for treatment from relatives or friends.

Police also said the three had recorded a video on a mobile phone before their deaths, in which they spoke of their health problems and lack of money. Another sister told investigators that the three had asked her for Rs 50,000 for rent and daily expenses.

Assistant Inspector Vishnu Wadkar said it appeared the siblings took the step together, indicating a suicide pact.

A forensic team visited the flat and collected evidence. Police also prepared a panchnama in the presence of independent witnesses. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Boisar police have registered an accidental death report (ADR) and said the investigation is being conducted from all angles.

The incident has heightened concern among residents of the complex. About two months ago, a former military officer allegedly died by suicide in the same building. Before that, a Class 10 student died after falling from the 14th floor. This is the third such case in the building within a year.
