Eligible students in Mumbai city and suburbs must submit fresh applications for 2026-27 on the National Scholarship Portal, while renewals stay on MahaDBT.

Students in Mumbai city and the suburbs who are eligible for the post-matric scholarship have until November 30, 2026 to submit a fresh application. The application has to be filed on the Central government's National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The scholarship is for the academic year 2026-27. The Other Backward Classes Welfare, Mumbai City and Suburban department has made the appeal.

According to the department, the appeal is meant for eligible students from Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Nomadic Tribes, as well as Special Backward Classes. Eligible students who have already secured admission in the first year should submit their fresh application only on the National Scholarship Portal. The MahaDBT 2.0 portal will not offer the facility of filing fresh applications for these students.

Fresh applications are to be submitted on the National Scholarship Portal for four schemes. The first is the post-matric scholarship for Other Backward Classes students. The second is the post-matric scholarship for Special Backward Classes students. The third is the post-matric scholarship for students from Vimukta Jatis and Nomadic Tribes. The fourth scheme is for eligible Other Backward Classes students taking admission to professional courses.

The department has asked students to first check the eligibility and income conditions under the rules of their scheme. They should then complete their applications with the required documents within the stipulated deadline.

Renewals are a separate matter. Students who received a Government of India scholarship in the academic year 2025-26 and are continuing in the second, third or fourth year at the same college in 2026-27 must submit their renewal applications on the MahaDBT portal, as before. It has also been clarified that the National Scholarship Portal is not to be used for renewals.

In short, a fresh application goes on the NSP portal and a renewal on the MahaDBT portal. The department has asked both students and educational institutions to keep the difference between fresh and renewal applications in mind and to ensure that applications are submitted on the correct portal.
