Amid a water shortage, CIDCO has announced GPS tracking, CCTV at filling stations and an OTP-based monitoring portal to oversee supply in its nodes.

Amid a water shortage, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has announced several measures to monitor water supply in its nodes, according to an official statement issued on Friday. They include GPS tracking of tankers, CCTV surveillance at tanker filling stations and a digital monitoring portal that runs on OTP.

CIDCO said the measures are meant to ensure equitable distribution of water, make supply smoother and prevent misuse of water.

According to the statement, a GPS tracking system has been installed in all 34 CIDCO water tankers. Eleven major tanker filling stations have been placed under CCTV watch. Officials said GPS is used to track tanker routes and delivery points, while CCTV helps keep an accurate record of the water distributed each day.

The statement said that under the guidance of Vice Chairman and Managing Director Ashwin Mudgal, the corporation has begun a series of review meetings to resolve problems in water supply and strengthen monitoring.

CIDCO is developing a full water portal that will have GPS tracking and an OTP-based access system. Until the portal goes live, daily updates are being maintained in Google Sheets.

To address the water shortage in Kalamboli, CIDCO is coordinating with the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP). It has also written to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) about the need for regular and adequate water.

To curb misuse, CIDCO has barred developers from receiving tanker water for construction and development work. The corporation has also warned housing societies not to use tanker water in swimming pools. If a society is found doing so, its tanker supply will be stopped immediately.

CIDCO's vigilance department is examining complaints received earlier. The corporation said that where irregularities are firmly established, penalties will be imposed and strict action taken. CIDCO has appealed to residents and housing societies to save water and cooperate with the administration. It also reiterated its commitment to regular, adequate and equitable water supply.
