Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation has raised weekday services on Metro Line 3 from 291 to 337 trips, effective Monday, November 2, 2026, citing rising passenger numbers.

More trains will now run on weekdays on Mumbai Metro Line 3, also called the Aqua Line. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has added 46 trips to the weekday train service, raising the total number of daily trips from 291 to 337. The revised timetable came into effect on Monday, November 2, 2026.

According to MMRC, the decision was taken in view of the steadily growing number of passengers. The aim is to ease crowding in the corridor and reduce waiting time at stations, especially during peak hours.

Under the new schedule, the gap between two trains during peak hours has been cut from 4 minutes 50 seconds to 4 minutes 25 seconds. It is expected to bring relief to office-goers and other commuters travelling daily between the western suburbs and South Mumbai.

Since services began on the entire route from Aarey JVLR to Cuffe Parade, MMRC has been raising the number of trips gradually. Initially, 271 train trips ran daily on the corridor. The number was raised to 282 on June 23, 2026, and to 291 on September 28, 2026. With 337 trips, the service on Mumbai's underground metro corridor has seen another major increase. MMRC has clarified that on weekends, trains will continue to run on a separate timetable.

Passenger figures also explain the increase. According to data released by MMRC, 7,20,88,738 passengers travelled on the Aqua Line in its first year of operation on the full route, crossing the 7.2 crore mark. In September 2026, an average of 2,24,602 passengers used the metro daily on weekdays, while the weekend figure was 1,31,138.

This difference between weekdays and weekends shows how important Metro Line 3 is becoming for Mumbai's daily commuters, especially those who travel to work in the big business districts and commercial centres.

Metro Line 3 is about 33.5 km long. It connects Aarey JVLR in the western suburbs with Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai. The underground corridor passes through several important residential, commercial and transport hubs. It gives people an alternative to travelling by road and improves connectivity in the city.

Looking ahead, MMRC has said it will monitor passenger demand and operational requirements to determine whether more services are needed. The corporation says its aim is to improve frequency, reduce waiting time and make daily travel dependable, as ridership on the Aqua Line continues to rise.
