Pre-orders have opened in India for Temple, a head-worn device that tracks blood flow in the brain and is priced at Rs 85,000.

Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal has launched a new device called Temple in India. It is built to track a person's health and brain-related activity. Pre-orders have begun in India, and the price is Rs 85,000.

Temple is not an ordinary smartwatch or fitness band. It is designed to track blood flow in the brain and related signals. It is worn on one side of the head, either on the forehead or in the area between the ears. The device has optical sensors that pick up changes in blood flow in the brain. The company has named the technology BrainFlow.

The device will also have a feature called the Entropy Score, which gives points on a scale of 1 to 250. Users can use the score to gauge the strain on their body. It may also take in the effect of factors such as sleep, exercise, stress and caffeine.

No strap is needed to hold it on the head. It is attached with a special adhesive tape called Grips. The company says it can be kept on while running, swimming and bathing.

On buying, the Rs 85,000 price in India includes a lifetime subscription option. Users can book the device through the Temple app or the official website, temple.com. According to the company, each device will be made only after an order is received, so delivery may take three months after booking. Users can also request a refund before the device is shipped.

The device will be available in six colours: True Gold, Rose Gold, Black Mirror, Real Jade, Deep Blue and Purple Funk.

One point should be kept in mind. Temple is not meant to be a medical diagnostic tool or a device that detects illness. It has been designed for wellness and research purposes, which makes it a different kind of device from a smartwatch. Buyers should therefore understand its features and intended use well before purchasing.
