Maharashtra may see a change in the weather on Tuesday, 3 November. Unseasonal rain, thunder, lightning and strong winds are expected to continue in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for seven districts.
According to the department, some districts in Konkan, western Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha may see squalls, with a risk of lightning strikes. The districts under yellow alert are Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Latur, Nanded, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal. All seven may receive rain with thunder and lightning on Tuesday. In some places wind speed may reach 30 to 50 kmph. As the weather can change suddenly, people have been advised to stay alert.
In Vidarbha, rain with squalls is expected in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal. Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Wardha and Bhandara may stay mostly dry. However, the possibility of local cloud cover or a change in the weather has not been ruled out.
Mumbai, Thane and Palghar may see cloudy skies on Tuesday, with light rain in some places. No specific heavy rain warning has been issued for these three districts. Pune city is also likely to see clouds and light rain. According to the IMD, the city's maximum temperature may be around 26 degrees Celsius and the minimum 19 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Murasu is active in the Bay of Bengal. It is expected to reach the coast near Andhra Pradesh on 3 November. Heavy rain and strong winds are possible in parts of South India because of it. Some areas of Maharashtra may also see an effect on the weather, but the forecast does not show the cyclone moving directly towards Maharashtra.
The weather department has also listed some precautions. People should not go into open fields or stand under trees when lightning is flashing. Farmers have been asked to move harvested crops and grain to a safe place. The public should also keep track of weather warnings for their area.
