A pregnant woman was safely delivered of a baby inside a 108 ambulance in Sonavla in Thane district on Thursday morning. She was being taken to hospital for the delivery when her labour pain suddenly intensified on the way. The doctor and medical staff on board handled the situation on the spot. The mother and the newborn are both well, and their condition is stable.

At 6.22 am on Thursday, ASHA worker Seema called the 108 emergency number to get the pregnant woman immediate medical help.

The ambulance left for the spot at 6.25 am, three minutes after the call, and reached the woman at 6.36 am. She received medical help within 11 minutes of the ambulance setting out. She was then helped into the ambulance and taken towards the primary health centre at Sonavla.

At around 7.15 am, before reaching the hospital, her pain suddenly increased. The situation did not allow for waiting until the primary health centre was reached, and the delivery had to be conducted there and then. Dr Ajay Bhagwat, the emergency medical services officer on duty in the ambulance, and emergency assistant Arun Dhumal recognised the seriousness of the case and began the necessary medical care without delay. The delivery took place safely inside the ambulance under their supervision.

After the delivery, the doctors examined the mother and the newborn and found both stable. They were then taken to the Sonavla primary health centre for further treatment and monitoring, where they were handed over safely to the medical staff. Further monitoring of their health has begun there.

The medical team's prompt decision and care were credited with the safe birth. The ambulance reached the spot within minutes of the call, and when delivery became imminent on the way to the hospital, the team took the right decision and gave the necessary treatment.

The medical team's promptness is being praised.
