Major traffic changes have been made in Thane city for the well-known Tembhi Naka Navratri festival. The Thane City Traffic Branch has imposed a 24-hour restriction on the main road in the Tembhi Naka area from Sunday, October 4, to October 20.

The Navratri festival begins on Sunday, October 11, and ends on Dussehra, Tuesday, October 20. Tembhi Naka draws huge crowds of devotees, and the changes have been made to prevent congestion caused by them. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Thane City Traffic Branch) Pankaj Shirsat has appealed to motorists to use only the alternative routes specified.

Ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, police vehicles and vehicles of essential services are exempt from the restrictions.

Entry closed at Sujay Hotel: Vehicles of every kind, including TMT and ST buses, heading from Thane station, Tower Naka and Dagdi Shala Chowk via Veer Savarkar Marg towards Tembhi Naka and Civil Hospital will not be allowed to enter at the Sujay Hotel cut. They will turn right at the Sujay Hotel cut, reach Court Naka Circle via Municipal Corporation School No. 17, and proceed to their destination from there.

Vehicles from Charai: Entry will be closed at Dhobi Aali Cross and Fair Apartment for vehicles heading from Charai via Edalji Road to Bhavani Chowk and Tembhi Naka. These vehicles will go straight up to Dhobi Aali Cross, turn left and proceed via Dhobi Aali Chowk, the mosque and Civil Hospital.

Vehicles from the Civil Hospital side: Vehicles of every kind coming from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and Meenatai Thackeray Chowk towards Tembhi Naka via Civil Hospital Corner will be stopped near Civil Hospital. They can go from Civil Hospital Corner via GPO, Court Naka Circle and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Marg to their destination.

The crowd of devotees at Tembhi Naka is expected to grow considerably during the festival, so commuters are advised to plan their journey before leaving home.
