A man in the Misarwadi area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has been accused of torturing his 10-year-old daughter. The girl's brother has complained to police that cold water was poured over her, cigarette burns were inflicted on her hands and legs, and the hair at the back of her head was cut off.

On the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered against the father at CIDCO police station. Police arrested him as soon as the case was registered. He was produced in court today and sent to judicial custody, Sub-Inspector Sopan Narle said. The complainant is the girl's 24-year-old brother.

The complainant works as a painter and lives separately with his wife. His younger brother and the 10-year-old sister live with their father.

The incident dates to October 25. At about 11.16 am, the complainant's uncle phoned him to say that the girl and her father were not to be seen at home. The brother went to his father's house but found neither of them there, and began searching for them. Meanwhile, he got a call from his cousin, who lives in Jahagir Colony in the Jatwada Road area, saying the girl had come to her neighbourhood. When the brother reached there, he found his sister, who began crying on seeing him.

The brother won her trust and questioned her. The complaint says the girl told him that between 2 am and 3 am on October 25, her father forcibly removed her clothes at home, poured cold water over her and burned her hands and legs with cigarettes. The complaint also records that the hair at the back of her head was cut, outraging her modesty.

After hearing the girl, the brother went straight to CIDCO police station and filed the complaint, on which the case was registered. Sub-Inspector Sopan Narle is investigating the case further.

The incident has caused anger in the area. Residents are protesting against it, calling it a shame to humanity.
