A 25-year-old married woman died after consuming poison and jumping from a balcony with her young daughter, who survived; police booked her husband for abetment of suicide.
A 25-year-old married woman died in Shivneri Colony at Ranjangaon Shenpunji in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, leaving the area in mourning. She first consumed a poisonous substance and then jumped from the balcony of her home with her young daughter. Critically injured, she died during treatment. The child survived.
The deceased is Kaveri alias Monika Deepak Kale, 25, who lived in Shivneri Colony, Ranjangaon Shenpunji. Her husband, Deepak Bhagwat Kale, is the accused. Monika's brother, Bhagwan Babasaheb Shingade, has lodged a complaint at Waluj MIDC police station. Bhagwan, 32, lives in Chinchkhed in Ambad taluka of Jalna district.
According to police, Monika married Deepak Kale, a resident of Bhojgaon in Georai taluka of Beed district, in 2016. For a few months after the wedding, the household ran smoothly. Police said Deepak then became addicted to alcohol. It was also stated that he talked to another woman and was heavily in debt because of a card-gambling habit. Over these matters he began abusing Monika and beating her brutally.
Monika had told her parental family several times about her husband's behaviour. Her brother, parents and relatives had visited more than once, counselled Deepak and asked him to mend his ways. His behaviour did not change, and her distress grew by the day.
The incident occurred around 12.45 am on October 31. Worn down by constant distress and humiliation, Monika took the step. She first consumed a poisonous substance and then jumped from the balcony of the rented house with her young daughter.
The child suffered no serious injury, but Monika was badly hurt. On receiving word, she was rushed with the help of the landlord and relatives to Ghati Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. She was being treated there, but her condition was extremely critical. Doctors declared her dead at 6 am on November 1.
On the complaint of her brother Bhagwan Shingade, Waluj MIDC police have registered a case against the accused husband, Deepak Kale, under Section 306 for abetment of suicide. Police sub-inspector Phulsing Gusinge is investigating the case further.
