Pregnant woman and unborn child die at Vihamandva; husband, three relatives booked by Pachod police
A case has been registered against a woman's husband and in-laws after she and her unborn child died, with the complaint alleging they refused to pay for her treatment.
A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Vihamandva in Paithan taluka of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. It is alleged that a woman who was nine months pregnant did not get treatment in time even after her health deteriorated. In the end, the woman and the child in her womb died.
The deceased has been identified as Swati alias Samiksha Vishal Nimbalkar. A case has been registered at Pachod police station against her husband, parents-in-law and sister-in-law. The complaint alleges that her in-laws had refused to bear the cost of treatment.
According to the complaint, Swati was nine months pregnant. When her health worsened on September 6, she was taken to a private hospital. Tests there showed that the amount of amniotic fluid in the womb had fallen and that the umbilical cord had tightened around the neck of the unborn child. As the complications were increasing, doctors are said to have advised an immediate caesarean section. Despite this, the in-laws allegedly refused to pay for treatment.
The complaint also states that Swati's parents' family had shown readiness to bear the entire cost of treatment. Even so, she was not admitted to hospital immediately. Meanwhile, her condition grew more serious by the day. She was finally admitted to Ghati Hospital on September 25, but she died before treatment could begin. The child in her womb, at nine months, also could not be saved.
Pachod police have registered a case against Swati's husband Vishal Anil Nimbalkar, father-in-law Anil Nimbalkar, mother-in-law Sharada Nimbalkar and sister-in-law Aishwarya Nimbalkar. All four live in Vihamandva. These allegations have been made in the complaint and are under investigation.
Police are examining whether Swati was being subjected to mental or physical harassment by her in-laws. They are also trying to establish exactly why there was a delay in admitting her to hospital. The medical aspects of the case and matters relating to her death are also being investigated.
The question is now being raised whether the outcome might have been different had she received medical treatment in time. A mood of mourning prevails in the Vihamandva area and across Paithan taluka.
