In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, heart specialists said stress, lack of sleep, depression, addiction, diabetes and a changing lifestyle are increasing the burden on the heart. Carrying the message "a calm mind keeps the heart safe", they advised people to take care of their hearts.

The Hridaysamvad Parishad was held at the IMA auditorium, organised by Ropalekar Health Care Pvt. Ltd. People from various walks of life attended.

Dr Ajay Rote, senior diabetes specialist and medical director of Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital, explained the link between diabetes, obesity and heart disease. He urged people to walk regularly, exercise, watch their diet and avoid smoking. According to Dr Rote, the damage diabetes does to the heart often goes undetected.

Dr Rote said four lifestyle habits are essential for a healthy heart: exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, keep stress under control and stay away from intoxicants.

Dr Mahesh Deshpande, medical director of Hedgewar Hospital, spoke about the symptoms of chest pain and how it is investigated. Dr Kedar Ropalekar, an interventional cardiologist, gave guidance on the rising incidence of heart disease among young people. The event heard that heart disease is increasing even among the young, so chest pain or discomfort should not be ignored, and tests and treatment should be sought in time.

Dr Mangala Borkar, professor in the geriatrics department of Ghati Hospital, explained how the elderly should manage their medicine schedules and look after their health. Dr Satish Ropalekar, senior cardiologist, spoke about rehabilitation after a heart attack, angioplasty and bypass surgery. Dr Kanchan Ropalekar, a clinical cardiologist, was also among the speakers.

Dr Pradeep Inamdar, a retired Army captain, gave a CPR demonstration using a robot that responds to the procedure.
