"We will not let the farmers' Diwali turn dark," Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said at the Dussehra rally in Thane. He said they would stand behind the farmers, and that the government had extended a helping hand to them before Diwali.

So that people in the drought-hit areas of Maharashtra can have a sweet Diwali, trucks carrying Diwali rations, that is, relief material, have been sent from the Thane and Mumbai region by the Shiv Sena led by Shinde (Shinde faction). The trucks carry the slogan "Madatiche toran hech Shiv Senechे dhoran" (Garlands of help are the Shiv Sena's policy).

The Dussehra rally of Shinde's Shiv Sena is to be held at the Nesco complex in Goregaon. On this occasion, the party will provide aid to the drought-affected and distribute essential items to sweeten their Diwali. Trucks loaded with these goods have left for the drought-hit areas.

The trucks carrying the material were flagged off on the occasion of this year's Dussehra rally. The kits contain essential items and Diwali snack-making supplies for drought-hit farming families. The material has been sent by truck.

So that women in farming families can stand on their own feet and have a means of livelihood, 25,000 sewing machines have been distributed.

Financial help has been given for the weddings of daughters of farmers in drought-hit areas, and bicycles have also been distributed to girls. This year's Navratri festival was celebrated simply in many places. Funds collected from "Raj Dandiya" and other events have been diverted to help the drought-affected.

Resolving that "we will not let the farmers' Diwali turn dark," Shiv Sena office-bearers and workers are going directly to village after village to deliver the rations.

Extending Dussehra greetings, Shinde said that useful items had been sent from Thane to help drought-hit farmers in view of the drought. Deputy Chief Minister Shinde toured drought-hit places and learnt of the farmers' distress.

Shinde also said that by helping farmers, Shiv Sena workers would go to their fields and tie festive garlands on their homes. "The Shiv Sena does 80 per cent politics and 20 per cent social work, this is the teaching of Balasaheb Thackeray," Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said at the Dussehra rally in Thane.
