Vipassana centre on Brahmapuri's Adyal hill will gain national recognition, says Wadettiwar

A Vipassana centre is being built on Adyal hill in Brahmapuri taluka. Vijay Wadettiwar, MLA and leader of the Congress party in the legislature, has said the centre will be made so grand, beautiful and special that people from every corner of the country come to Brahmapuri to see it. He said this was his resolve.

Wadettiwar made the remarks over a video call during a Dhamma Sohala held on Adyal hill. A total of 110 Buddhist monks from Thailand were present at the event. Wadettiwar said the centre should not remain merely a place for meditation. His wish is that it become an important national-level centre spreading the Buddha's message of thought, peace and compassion.

The Dhamma Sohala was held to take the Buddha's message of peace, compassion, friendship and fraternity to ordinary people. Some 110 monks from Thailand took part, among them Phra Ajahn Jaran, Phra Maha Chetsada and Phra Ajahn Vichai. In their presence, a Dhamma discourse, sutta recitation, a message of friendship and a prayer for peace were held.

Wadettiwar could not attend the event himself for reasons that could not be avoided. He welcomed the monks over the video call and thanked them for coming. He said he is confident the Vipassana centre being built on Adyal hill will prove an important centre for spreading the ideas of the Dhamma.

On the occasion, the Buddhist monks planted trees in the grounds of the Vipassana centre. The initiative was meant to convey a call to protect nature on one hand and to carry forward the Buddha's ideas of compassion, friendship and peace on the other.

Wadettiwar made clear that the Adyal hill centre should not be limited to the local level but should become known across the country. For that reason, it will be built to high quality and with an attractive design. He intends to make the centre so beautiful that people from across the country come to Brahmapuri to see it.

A large number of people were present at the event.
