Farmers in Vidarbha may finally get some relief after a long wait for rain and growing worry over drought-like conditions in the region. The Nagpur Meteorological Centre has forecast an increase in rainfall activity from September 23. The forecast comes against the backdrop of anxiety among farmers in parts of Vidarbha where rainfall has been inadequate.

According to the weather department's forecast, a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal will strengthen rainfall in Vidarbha. This system is likely to intensify further, giving a boost to rain activity over the region. Rain is expected to begin from the evening of September 23, followed by heavy showers at many places over the next three days.

The weather department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Gondia, Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts on September 24 and 25. Given the possibility of intense rain during this period, an orange alert has been issued for these four districts, indicating the likelihood of severe rainfall in these areas during this time.

The weather system is also likely to bring stormy winds, thunder and lightning along with heavy rain in some places. The weather department has advised citizens to remain alert, particularly during periods of intense stormy activity. Farmers have also been urged to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops and farm equipment.

The forecast comes at a crucial juncture for farmers in Vidarbha. Crops in some areas have come under stress due to insufficient rainfall, raising concern over dry conditions. The rain expected over the next three days is considered significant for areas that have been waiting for substantial rainfall.

Scientists at the Nagpur Meteorological Centre, including Pravin Kumar, have highlighted this evolving weather situation and its likely impact on the region.

With the low-pressure area expected to affect weather conditions, rainfall activity is likely to remain elevated across many parts of Vidarbha in the coming days. The administration and citizens, particularly those in the four districts under orange alert, have been advised to closely monitor weather updates.
