Mumbai: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray targeted the ruling parties on the state's law and order at the Dussehra rally at Shivaji Park. Referring to the alleged life-threatening attack on actor Tiger Shroff, he criticised Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. In the same speech he also took aim at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In his speech, Thackeray cited the attack on Tiger Shroff. He said Eknath Shinde met Shroff after the incident, and on this he raised questions about the government's functioning. His words were: "Tiger Shroff was attacked, and this showman rushed to see him. Are we supposed to praise them for catching the goons in 15 hours? Had that boy been shot, what good would catching the accused do?"
Thackeray said that arresting the accused after a crime is necessary, but the real question is what the security agencies did to ensure such incidents do not happen at all. He also said that had the accused who came armed been stopped earlier, the situation would have been different.
Using the incident as his basis, Thackeray commented on the state's law and order. His speech raised the questions of whether the security agencies had already received information about suspicious activity before the attack, and what precautions are taken to prevent such incidents. He argued that giving first priority to citizens' safety matters more than praising the arrest of the accused.
Commenting on Fadnavis, Thackeray named Lawrence Bishnoi. Pointing out that Bishnoi is in Sabarmati jail, he questioned the government's role. In a challenging tone he said: "Fadnavis ji, if you have the guts, go to your guru and bring that Bishnoi here." On the occasion he also took the government to task over its use of the term "urban Naxal".
Overall, at the Dussehra rally Uddhav Thackeray criticised the ruling side by raising the attack on Tiger Shroff, citizens' safety and Lawrence Bishnoi. His statements have brought the question of the state's law and order back into political debate.
