The Local Crime Branch in Chandrapur has seized foreign liquor from a travels bus. According to police, the liquor was being carried on a Ganraj Travels bus that had come from Nagpur. Two women from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh have been arrested. One suspect is absconding and police are searching for him.

The action took place on October 17, 2026. The Chandrapur sub-division team of the Local Crime Branch was on patrol in the city in the interest of law and order. Police then received reliable confidential information that two women were travelling to Chandrapur with a large quantity of illegal foreign liquor on a Ganraj Travels bus (number MH 49 AT 1696) coming from the Nagpur side.

Acting on the tip, the team immediately set up a cordon at Priyadarshani Chowk. As soon as the bus reached the chowk, the team checked it and took the two suspected women into custody. Their travel bags were opened in the presence of panch witnesses. The bags held 40 sealed 750 ml bottles of Bombay Whisky and 195 sealed 90 ml bottles of Officer's Choice Whisky. The 235 bottles in all are valued at about Rs 36,730.

In police questioning, the arrested women were identified as Rajkumari Dhiraj Jat (36) and Shivratri Sanjay Jat (59). Both live in the Belgaon Kenjar locality of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. In initial questioning, the women said they had brought the liquor from Nagpur and were to hand it over for sale to Prince Kenjar, who lives in the Kenjar locality of Chandrapur. Police describe Prince Kenjar as the main conspirator in the case.

It is said that Prince Kenjar fled the spot as soon as he got wind of the action. Police are trying to trace him. Thus, both women are under arrest in the case, while Prince Kenjar is yet to be arrested.

On a complaint by the Local Crime Branch team, a case has been registered at Ramnagar police station against the accused under Sections 65(A) and 83 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. The two women have been handed over to Ramnagar police for further legal action.

Police are investigating at whose behest the liquor smuggling by travels bus was being carried out and who else is involved.
