Yashodhara Nagar police in Nagpur have arrested two men in vehicle theft cases. Police recovered four stolen two-wheelers from them, with a total value estimated at about Rs 2.45 lakh.

The arrested accused have been identified as Imran Hussain Rashid Hussain and Sheikh Sultan Sheikh Yasin. According to police, Imran had been released from jail only about a month ago in an earlier vehicle theft case. Investigators suspect that after coming out of jail he began stealing vehicles again with the help of associates.

The case began on October 7, when a moped belonging to Faizan Khan, a resident of Kalamna, was allegedly stolen from near a paan shop close to Automotive Square. After receiving the complaint, police began an investigation and went through CCTV footage from cameras around the spot to identify the suspects.

During patrolling, police allegedly received confidential information that the two suspects were preparing to sell a stolen vehicle in the Tajbagh area. Acting on the tip-off, a police team laid a trap and took both into custody.

During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to involvement in four two-wheeler thefts registered within the limits of Sakkardara, Yashodhara Nagar and Nandanvan police stations. Police then recovered all four vehicles. Their total value has been put at about Rs 2.45 lakh.

Police suspect the accused may be involved in more vehicle theft cases in other parts of Nagpur. They are also looking into allegations that the registration numbers of the stolen vehicles were changed before they were sold. Further investigation is under way to establish whether the accused were linked to other theft cases and how widespread their alleged activities were.
