A dispute over the removal of some youths from a garba event in the Ajni police station area of Nagpur has allegedly escalated into a knife attack. The incident took place on the night of October 19 near Suresh Ground, close to Rudra Bar in the Manish Nagar area.
Atharva Wadibhasme was seriously injured in the attack. He is being treated at the trauma centre of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Ajni police have arrested two accused and are searching for two other suspects.
According to the complaint, some youths arrived drunk while the garba was under way at Suresh Ground and began abusing people. They were then removed from the venue with the help of bouncers, it is alleged.
An argument is said to have broken out over the incident between the complainant, Krishna Bardia, and the youths. The youths left, but the dispute did not end there.
Tejas Dhenge has emerged as the main accused. He allegedly phoned the complainant and asked him to come to the spot with his friend Atharva Wadibhasme. The argument over the earlier removal from the garba is said to have resumed there.
During the altercation, Atharva was allegedly attacked with a knife. He suffered two to three stab wounds to the chest and was seriously injured.
Atharva was first taken to Taywade Hospital. After initial medical treatment he was shifted to the trauma centre at GMCH, where he continues to be treated.
In this case, Ajni police have arrested Tejas Dhenge and Altaf Alam Ansari. Two other alleged associates of the accused have not yet been found and are being searched for.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and other relevant sections. Police are continuing the investigation.
