Truck with 39 boxes of country liquor seized on Ballarshah-Kothari road, driver flees in dark

Police have seized a truck carrying illegal liquor in the Kothari police station area. A joint team of the Local Crime Branch and Kothari police station carried out the action on the Ballarshah-Kothari road. The truck was found with 39 boxes of country liquor, but the driver could not be caught.

According to police, a tip-off was received on November 6, 2026 that illegal liquor was being transported within the limits of Kothari police station. Acting on it, the Local Crime Branch and Kothari police station teams planned the operation together and set up a cordon near Satbara Hotel on the Ballarshah-Kothari road.

During the blockade, the suspect truck, registration number MH34AB5592, arrived. Police signalled the driver to stop. On seeing the police, the driver tried to speed away instead of halting. Police chased the vehicle for some distance. The driver then parked the truck a short way ahead and, taking advantage of the dark, ran off.

A search of the truck turned up 39 boxes of Rocket Santra brand country liquor. The boxes hold 3,900 units in all, each of 90 ml. The liquor is valued at Rs 1.56 lakh and the truck at Rs 15 lakh. Police have seized goods worth Rs 16.56 lakh in total.

A case has been registered at Kothari police station against the absconding driver under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and the motor vehicle law. No arrest has been reported so far, as the driver fled the spot.

The action was carried out by a joint team of the Rajura sub-division and Kothari police station. Police are investigating further and a determined search for the fleeing driver is on.
