Chandrapur police seize 500 bottles of illicit country liquor from Pajero on Ballarshah bypass
Police seized goods worth Rs 5.20 lakh, including the vehicle, and detained a 25-year-old man from Ballarshah on October 2.
Chandrapur police took major action against illicit country liquor on October 2, 2026. They seized 500 bottles of country liquor from a Pajero on Ballarshah bypass road in the Ramnagar area. Goods worth Rs 5.20 lakh in all, liquor and vehicle together, were seized. Police took the entire consignment into custody on the spot.
Police had received a tip-off and, acting on it, laid a trap on Ballarshah bypass road in front of Kishor Electronics in Ramnagar. A white Mitsubishi Pajero four-wheeler passed the spot in suspicious circumstances. Police stopped the vehicle and searched it, finding a large stock of country liquor that was being transported illegally.
The vehicle yielded 500 bottles of 90 ml country liquor of the "Rocket Santra" brand. According to police, the bottles are worth about Rs 20,000. The white Pajero used to smuggle the liquor, registration number AP 28 BW 0828, was also seized and is valued at around Rs 5 lakh. Together, the bottles at Rs 20,000 and the vehicle at Rs 5 lakh make up the Rs 5.20 lakh seized on the spot.
Police detained Marpalli Ganesh Gaund, son of Venkatesh Gaund, along with the vehicle. He is 25 years old and lives in Balaji Ward in Ballarshah, Chandrapur district. A case is being registered against him at Ramnagar police station under Section 65(A) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Further investigation is under way.
The operation was carried out by the Chandrapur sub-division team. The police administration has warned that similar strict action will continue against illegal activities in the area.
