The trailer of 'Eetha', the new film starring Shraddha Kapoor, has been released. Shraddha plays Vithabai Narayangaonkar, the celebrated lavani empress, in a musical drama that its makers describe as inspired by true events. The film opens in cinemas on December 4, 2026.
Maddock Films and Kathputli Creations have made the film. Laxman Utekar is the director, and he produces it along with Dinesh Vijan and Karishma Sharma. Ajay-Atul have composed the music and Vaibhavi Merchant is the choreographer.
The story follows a woman who battles one obstacle after another to win due recognition for her art and a respected place in society. Interest in the film was already high. Some time ago, the makers had revealed the look of Randeep Hooda, who appears as 'Merchant'. The trailer is the next surprise, and it also shows Hooda in a fresh avatar that is being counted among its big attractions.
The trailer begins in an open ground packed with a huge crowd, where Eetha is seen performing lavani on a stage. The shifting moods of her dance, the excitement of the audience and the changing looks give it energy from the first frame. It then turns to her struggle and the emotional upheavals of her life. In one scene she says, "You were the one who said, let's see what breaks, my faith or my ego?" She is then seen hurling a stone at her own poster, with Siddharth Jadhav glimpsed in the same moment.
Another scene shows a large crowd gathered before the stage, and blood is visible on feet bound with ghungroos, a hint of how hard her path has been. Here Shraddha says, "My faith was my ego. When it broke, everything broke." Her love of dance survives every hurdle, and one line stands out in particular: "If I die dancing, I will become an ideal." The dialogue reflects Vithabai's stubbornness and her devotion to her craft.
This is a clear change of look for Shraddha after 'Stree 2'. She appears in a traditional nauvari saree and bold jewellery, and carries herself with confidence. Her dialogue delivery and stage presence bring out the fearlessness of a woman who would rather shape her own fate than leave it to others. About the saree she says, "This is not just cloth, it is pride." The line adds emotional weight, since the costume stands for Vithabai's culture, identity and self-respect and is used to reveal her thinking, not merely for beauty.
Lavani, the Maharashtrian folk art known for spirited music, bold dance and expressive delivery, sits at the heart of the film. The trailer conveys its vibrancy through historical sets, colourful stages and a traditional setting that take viewers back to an era when artistes had to prove their talent while facing social restrictions. For Vithabai, the stage is more than a place to show her art. It is where she makes her identity.
Besides Shraddha and Randeep Hooda, the cast includes Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Anant Joshi and Siddharth Jadhav, along with Marathi actors Shubhankar Ekbote and Radha Sagar in important roles. The film will portray the key people in Vithabai's life, her struggle and her journey in the world of art. With its powerful dialogue, lavani performances and glimpses of hardship, the trailer has raised expectations, and all eyes are now on how Shraddha brings Vithabai Narayangaonkar to the big screen.
