Vaishali Kadam says the Khar house was bought with share market profits, half from her and half from actor Arun Kadam, who refused to leave his mother.
Everyone in the Marathi industry knows Arun Kadam. Whether in comic or serious roles, he has always made people laugh. But he is talked about more for his real life than for his work. His wife, Vaishali Kadam, does not act in films, yet she is quite popular on social media. In a recent interview, she shared an amusing story about their new home.
Vaishali said she was earlier a full-time homemaker. Even at home, she kept watching the share market. She kept putting in small sums and made a good profit, and gradually felt like investing more. The house bought in Khar was bought with this money. Half of it was Arun's and half was hers.
The couple earlier lived in Khar East. Vaishali did not feel at home there. She always felt they should move ahead and buy a bigger house. Arun's problem was different. His mother lived nearby, so he would say he would not go anywhere leaving his mother.
According to Vaishali, she tried hard to persuade Arun. She told him house prices were rising every day, that buying later would be difficult if they did not buy now, and that this was the right time to invest. A woman friend of hers also kept telling her to get out of there, saying nothing would happen in life if she did not take the step now. Even so, Arun was in no mood to listen. He stuck to his decision.
Vaishali then thought that if he was not coming, she would go alone. She herself went and found a rented house and moved there. She had looked at the whole house on her own. Their daughter Sukanya, by then grown up, always stayed with her mother. Vaishali told her about the decision she was taking. Sukanya said, "Mother, if what you are saying is right, then do it, but what about Papa?" Vaishali replied, "Let's see what happens." She also showed her daughter the new house. She handled all the papers and the entire transaction alone.
Her friend had suggested that she first move there on rent, since that is how one learns about good homes in the area. That was why she left the house. She had a little more money at the time, so she did not ask Arun much. Laughing, she said she was capable then, but Arun was also firm that he would not leave his mother.
Vaishali and Sukanya then called a truck together and began loading the belongings. Arun sat sulking in a corner. He had decided that come what may, he would not leave the house.
Vaishali went on to say she told Arun plainly, "Fine, you stay right here." She packed their household and everything she needed, but deliberately did not touch Arun's clothes.
After all the belongings had been taken out, as she picked up the last bag, she asked what he would do now. Arun then said sulkily, like a child, "Pack my bag too!" How would he live alone without his wife and daughter? In the end he agreed to come. At the very last moment, Vaishali packed his clothes. Arun did not help at all. She tied up all of Arun's clothes in shawls he had received at events, and everyone set off for the new house.
