Mrinal Thakur, Huma Qureshi's 'Pooja Meri Jaan' to release on ZEE5 on October 2
Directed by Navjyot Gulati and produced by Maddock Films, the drama stars Mrinal Thakur and Huma Qureshi.
Not every story offers easy answers. Some unsettle audiences, shake their assumptions and confront them with truths they often avoid. The film "Pooja Meri Jaan" arrives with one such layered and unusual story.
The film is directed by Navjyot Gulati and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik. Made under the Maddock Films banner, it will premiere in Hindi on ZEE5 on October 2, 2026.
The story revolves around a girl named Pooja. After she turns down a close friend's love, a series of disturbing events unfold. As the story progresses, several questions arise: what actually happened, who is responsible, and whether Pooja is a victim of circumstance or has some other connection to the events unfolding around her.
Huma Qureshi's character, Sana, plays a key role in getting to the bottom of the matter. Sana, looking at the case from a legal standpoint, tries to understand the circumstances around Pooja. On one hand, conflicting accounts from different people emerge, while on the other, the question of what the truth actually is remains unresolved.
"Pooja Meri Jaan" raises questions around denial, obsession, consent, responsibility, justice and societal attitudes. As the story unfolds, several aspects are revealed to the audience. A distinctive feature of the film is that the story is not shown from a single person's point of view but from multiple perspectives, which means audiences too must look beyond one side of events to understand the truth behind them.
Mrinal Thakur, who plays Pooja, said she was drawn to the story from the start. As an actor, she saw an opportunity to explore many facets of the character. She said Pooja's character has several layers, and she particularly liked the character's journey and the confusion surrounding her. According to Thakur, it is a role that forces audiences to search for answers to certain questions themselves. She said the key question the story raises is how much what viewers see, and the assumptions they form from it, can affect the way they judge a person or a situation.
Huma Qureshi's character Sana is also an essential part of the story. Sana examines the case from a legal perspective and tries to make sense of the conflicting events around Pooja. According to Qureshi, the film's story does not look at the situation from just one perspective. It brings out how our perceptions of people and events are formed, and how difficult it can be to separate truth from assumption. The film, led by Mrinal Thakur and Huma Qureshi, explores the confusion around love, denial, consent, responsibility and societal attitudes, and it will be interesting to see what truth it presents to audiences.
