Titwala: Road filling blocks drain, dirty water floods Indira Nagar homes and shops
MNS leaders threaten agitation after debris from road work chokes a drain and sends sewage into homes and shops in Titwala's Indira Nagar
A drain in Indira Nagar, located on Nandap Road in the Manda-Titwala area near Kalyan, has become a serious problem for residents. Locals allege that filling material dumped during road work has blocked the natural flow of the drain, causing dirty water to spill onto the road and flow directly into homes and shops, causing heavy losses to residents and shopkeepers.
Residents say that with the drain's outflow blocked, the water accumulates on the road, and because it is not drained properly, the contaminated water enters nearby homes and shops. This has damaged household goods, stock kept in shops, and other items. Local resident Mangesh Kachre suffered heavy losses after drain water entered his home and shop. The foul-smelling water entering homes has caused financial losses and badly disrupted people's daily lives.
According to residents, the filling material dumped during the road work in the area has obstructed the flow of drain water. Water that used to flow through the drain is now coming directly onto the road, they allege. The incident has raised questions over whether proper planning for rainwater and sewage was done during the road work, whether the drain's flow was taken into account, and why adequate arrangements for water drainage were not made.
After the matter came to light, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena advocates Avinash Pandurang Shilkande and Dilip Rathod visited Indira Nagar to assess the situation. They gathered information on how drain water was coming onto the road and how much damage it was causing to homes and shops. MNS office-bearers then spoke to municipal corporation officials concerned and demanded that if the road work had blocked the drain's flow, it be restored immediately.
MNS has demanded that instead of merely draining the water out temporarily, the drain's flow be fully cleared and a permanent arrangement made for proper water drainage. The party also demanded that the KDMC administration start the necessary work immediately so that drain water does not come onto the road again or enter homes and shops.
MNS office-bearers questioned how long the administration would remain silent while dirty drain water enters people's homes and shops. They said that if people face new problems during development work, then accountability must be fixed for the planning of that work and the system responsible for it.
It has also been alleged that despite repeated complaints, no permanent solution to the problem has been found. As a result, MNS has now warned the municipal corporation administration of an agitation. Advocates Avinash Shilkande and Dilip Rathod said the drain's flow in Indira Nagar should be cleared immediately to give people relief, and if the problem is not resolved soon, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will launch a major public agitation.
The episode has raised questions over KDMC's handling of drain cleaning, planning of road work, and water drainage arrangements in Indira Nagar. Residents are now watching what steps the municipal corporation administration takes on the problem and when they get relief.
