The India Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain with lightning on October 29 and 30, linked to a cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal.
Mumbai: Conditions are again building up for rain in the state. Thunderstorms are expected in parts of Maharashtra over the next two days. A cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring a change in the weather. Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Pune and Nashik, along with some districts of Vidarbha, could be hit by rain. People are being urged to stay alert.
According to the India Meteorological Department's forecast, light to moderate rain is likely in different parts of the state on October 29 and 30. Some places will see rain with lightning, and strong winds may also blow.
Skies are likely to remain cloudy in parts of Konkan, North Maharashtra and Western Maharashtra. A change in local weather may also be felt. People should therefore keep track of the latest weather information before leaving home.
Rain has arrived in Vidarbha too. Amravati city and nearby rural areas have had drizzle since night, which has brought some relief from the heightened humidity. Rain has been forecast in the Amravati area for the next two to three days. How much rain actually falls, however, will depend on local weather conditions.
The unseasonal rain is expected to benefit the rabi season wheat and gram crops in some places. But if the rain is heavy, farm work and the condition of crops could be affected. Farmers should therefore plan farm work after checking the forecast for their area. They should take full precautions, especially if a warning for storm, rain or lightning is issued.
Meanwhile, rain has also been forecast in Uttar Pradesh because of weather changes linked to the cyclonic storm. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong winds are expected in some parts between October 28 and 31. Against this backdrop, the administration is said to be getting instructions to remain alert.
Precautions people should take: avoid standing under a tree or in the open during lightning. Follow official advisories from the weather department. Farmers should take necessary care of their crops and farm equipment. Avoid unnecessary travel during strong winds and rain.
