Two brothers and their sister were found dead in a locked flat in Virar West's Global City, and police suspect they took their own lives.
A shocking incident came to light on Thursday in the Global City area of Virar West, which is considered a high-profile locality. Two brothers and their sister were found dead in a locked flat in a building there. Police have said that, going by the initial investigation, they suspect the three died by suicide together.
The incident took place in flat number 1203 in D wing of K Avenue building in Global City. The flat had been locked for the past few days. On Wednesday night, a strong foul smell suddenly began to come from the locked flat. This raised the neighbours' suspicion and they immediately informed the local police.
On receiving the information, Senior Police Inspector Prakash Kavle of Bolinj police station reached the spot with his team. They broke open the main door of the flat and went in, and found three people lying dead inside.
The dead are aged roughly between 45 and 50. According to information given by Kavle, one of the three siblings was suffering from a serious illness such as cancer. The family was also in severe financial difficulty. Police's preliminary assessment is that they may have taken the extreme step because they were worn down by constant illness and the financial crisis.
Another detail has emerged in the investigation. One of the dead had recorded a video on his own mobile phone before dying, in which he mentioned that he was taking his own life. Police said there is a strong possibility that all three ended their lives by consuming poison.
The information that has emerged so far is based on the preliminary investigation, so the exact cause of death is yet to be established.
Police have taken custody of all three bodies and sent them to a government hospital for post-mortem. An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered in the case for now. Police said the exact cause of death will become clear from the video clip on the mobile phone, forensic evidence and the post-mortem report. Further investigation is under way.
The incident has caused deep grief and shock across Virar.
