Thousands of volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) took out route marches in nine groups in Nagpur on Sunday, ahead of the close of the organisation's centenary year. The marches were held simultaneously in different parts of the city, and Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat observed the march at Baba Buddhajinagar.
The format of the event was changed this year. The 12 divisions of the Nagpur metropolitan area were split into nine groups, and route marches were held at the same time at different places. By the Sangh's tradition, route marches are held on Vijayadashami, but this year marches were held at many places at the same time ahead of the main festival.
Volunteers began the marches from several places, including Kachchhi Visa ground, Chitnis Park, Ektanagar Colony ground, Mararitoli ground, Atre Layout, a college campus, Pushp Lawn and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Thousands of young volunteers in uniform were seen marching in step with discipline. After covering the fixed routes, all the groups returned to their starting points.
All eyes are now on the Sangh's main Vijayadashami festival, to be held at Reshimbagh ground at 7.40 am on Tuesday, October 20. Dr Bhagwat will address the gathering, the main attraction of the event.
Senior editor Sanjay Gupta will be the chief guest. Former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Yaniv Revah, Consul General of Israel in India, are also mentioned among the invited guests. Dhankhar arrived in Nagpur on Sunday evening.
