The Maruti Suzuki WagonR, among the most popular cars in India, has appeared in a new form. Suzuki has introduced the 7th generation of the WagonR in the Japanese market, with sizeable changes to the design and features.

The new WagonR has a premium look somewhat like the Toyota Vellfire. It offers modern safety systems along with a hybrid engine option.

On design, the company has retained the car's tall-boy form but changed the front considerably. It now has a large chrome grille, headlights with a horizontal design and a new bumper. Under Japan's kei car rules, the car is 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall. Its wheelbase is 2,460 mm.

The new WagonR gives priority to the safety and comfort of passengers. For advanced safety it gets ADAS, or Advanced Driver Assistance System, which includes features such as emergency braking and high-beam assist.

The car also has these features: a 360-degree camera and parking sensors, a large touchscreen infotainment system with a new dashboard, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control and a flexible seating arrangement.

The engine is being described as the model's biggest strength. It is likely to get a 660 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 54 PS of power and 58 Nm of torque. An electric motor that adds 10 PS and 29 Nm of torque may be paired with it. The gearbox is an e-CVT automatic. According to reports, the hybrid system can deliver mileage of 30 km to 37 km per litre.

The question now is when the car will come to India. The WagonR launched in Japan is entirely different from the model sold in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki may launch a facelift version of the WagonR in India by December 2026, with changes to suit Indian customers' preferences.
