Son delays father's cremation over wedding, arrives only after police threat
An elderly man died at an old-age home in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after his son refused to take him in, then his body, citing a wedding at home
An incident from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has left people shocked. A few days ago, an 80-year-old man was found in a distressed condition near the railway station area, suffering from paralysis. Seeing his condition, he was admitted to Ghati Hospital. After treatment there, he was sent to an old-age home, as his family could not be traced at the time.
Uma Tupe, who runs the old-age home, began searching for the man's family. After considerable effort, she eventually traced his son and daughter-in-law. Once the family was found, the son was contacted and asked to take his father home. But the son clearly refused, saying there was a wedding at home and there would not be enough space. He said they would think about it only after the wedding was over. As a result, the elderly man was kept at the old-age home and continued living there.
Meanwhile, the man's paralysis gradually worsened. He eventually died on Sunday morning at 7 am. Tupe immediately called the son to inform him of the death and requested that he come to collect the body for the last rites. But the son replied that he did not have time and would not be able to come, and told her to carry out the last rites herself. Tupe pleaded repeatedly, but received no proper response from the son. Finally, fed up, Tupe warned that she would file a police complaint.
As soon as he received the threat of legal action, the son reached the old-age home within a short while and took custody of the body. The father who had raised and brought up his son found, in the last phase of his life, that an old-age home was his only support. And even after death, he had to wait for his son for his last rites, which emerged as the most tragic truth of the entire incident.
