A demand has been raised in Chandrapur city for an immediate inspection of liquor shops operating near Shree Talkies, in the Ghutkala Dargah area and in Dikshit Ward. The Yuva Sena of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has submitted a memorandum on the matter to the Superintendent of Police and the District Collector.

A delegation led by Yuva Sena city chief Sayyed Fardin Amir submitted the memorandum. It says that if the inspection finds violations of rules, strict legal action should be taken as per the rules. The demand has been made forcefully.

According to the memorandum, the area is very crowded. It has temples and educational institutions, and students, women, senior citizens and ordinary residents pass through in large numbers. The area has Bajaj Polytechnic and schools from nursery to Class 10, whose students commute daily. The memorandum therefore says it has become essential for the administration to exercise full vigilance in the interest of citizens' safety, public peace and law and order.

The memorandum cites information received from local residents. According to it, drinking in the area leads to arguments, fights and abuse, and incidents of breach of public peace are also occurring. People living nearby are facing needless trouble, and the atmosphere of the area is being badly affected.

For this reason, the Yuva Sena has demanded that the permissions, licence conditions, fixed hours of sale and location of the shops concerned be examined. It also wants a check on whether the rules concerning educational institutions, religious places and public roads are being followed. The Yuva Sena says the inspection should be carried out on site by the competent authority, and strict steps should follow.
