Nagpur: The use of DJ systems, beam lights and laser beams was banned during Ganesh immersion processions, yet some mandals broke the rule. Police have registered cases against three people after DJ music was found playing in two separate areas of the city. Samples of musical instruments were also taken from 75 places during the immersion processions. Further action may follow after they are tested.

The first case is from Hanuman Nagar, under the Ajni police station limits. On Saturday night, police received information that a DJ was playing there. At around 11 pm, police acted and registered a case against Mangesh Raut and Nikhil Wadgaonkar.

The second case came up in the Mankapur area. On Saturday evening, a DJ was found playing in the Geeta Nagar area of Jhingabai Takli. Mankapur police then registered a case against Mukesh Ingle.

Police have paid special attention to noise pollution during the festival days this time. Along with Ganeshotsav, many religious and social processions use high-capacity sound systems. However, loud sound increases noise pollution and is feared to affect people's health.

In view of this, Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil has banned DJs, beam lights and laser beams under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The order will remain in force from midnight on September 3 until 11.59 pm on November 1.

There was also a demand to permit sound systems with four bass and four top units. A demonstration was held at the Police Commissioner's office for this. But the sound level was found to be above 75 decibels, so police did not grant the demand.

During the immersion, police took samples of the instruments of 75 processions. If the tests prove a violation of the rules, further legal action will be taken against those concerned.
