Nagpur police act against 2,080 traffic violators in a day, collect Rs 7.91 lakh in fines
Nagpur City Police ran a special drive on October 6, with riding without a helmet the most common offence, and also seized Rs 2.24 lakh worth of goods in drug cases.

Nagpur City Police on October 6 ran a special drive against motorists violating traffic rules in the city and took action on a large scale. During the drive, 2,080 motorists were booked for various violations. A total of Rs 7,91,200 was collected from them as challan fees.
Riding without a helmet accounted for the most cases. Action was taken against 1,156 such motorists, far more than in any other category. There were 328 no-parking cases. Driving without a licence and illegal passenger transport accounted for 103 cases each, while 62 cases were booked for driving on the wrong side.
There were 58 cases of triple-seat riding and 43 of overspeeding. Action was also taken in 33 cases each of drunken driving and driving without a seatbelt. The police also acted against motorists for other traffic violations as per rules. In all, 2,080 motorists were covered by the action.
Action was also taken against drugs and gambling. Along with the traffic drive, the police ran a campaign against liquor and narcotics. In five drug-related cases, seven accused were proceeded against and goods worth about Rs 2,24,220 were seized.
In a gambling case, the police recovered Rs 745 from one accused.
The police have appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules, carry the necessary documents while driving and not drive under the influence. According to the police, such action against violators will continue.
