Seven people have been booked in Nagpur on the allegation that they took Rs 12 lakh from a young man from the city by promising him a government job. The complaint says some of them claimed to have strong contacts in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the Metro and other government offices, and promised to get the youth a job. Shantinagar police have registered a case against the seven and begun an investigation.

The alleged fraud came to light when the complainant took the appointment letter given by the accused to the Metro. He is said to have realised there that the document was forged. The matter then reached the police.

According to the complaint, Nikhil Masarke met the accused Pratik Yuvraj Urade during Ganeshotsav in 2025. Urade is alleged to have told Nikhil that his friends had contacts in the NMC, the Metro and other government offices and could get him a government job.

Police said Nikhil was allegedly pressed to pay money on the strength of the promise of a job. He is said to have paid a total of Rs 12 lakh in instalments.

To win the complainant's trust, the accused allegedly gave him an appointment letter. It showed that he had been given a government job.

But when Nikhil took the letter to the Metro, it emerged that the document was forged. He then asked for his money back. The accused allegedly kept evading its return.

On Nikhil's complaint, Shantinagar police have booked Vishal Jadhav, Swapnil Sahare, Roshan Wankhede, Digambar Shinde, Sachin Rathod, Arvind Chaudhari and Pratik Yuvraj Urade.

Investigating officers are now examining the alleged financial transactions. They are also trying to establish where the forged appointment letter came from and how it was made. Police are also checking how true the accused's claim of contacts in government offices is.

Police are also looking into whether anyone else was involved in the alleged racket. An inquiry is also under way into whether other job-seeking youths may have been targeted in the same way.
