The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has released the list of Maharashtra's Idol Teachers for 2026-27. This time, 4,484 teachers from across the state have been chosen as Idol Teachers. District-wise, Pune district has the most, with 487 teachers.

Details of the list were shared through a press release by Dr Kamladevi Awte, joint director of the council, and Sachindra Pratap Singh, chief of the committee and Commissioner of Education. According to the release, the School Education Department had decided last year to select Idol Teachers and Idol Schools, to honour teachers who teach well and to encourage them.

The aim of the initiative is that the experience and skills of teachers who are working in an excellent and innovative manner benefit the entire education department. Under this, Idol Teachers will be included in training programmes, workshops and discussion sessions at the state, district and taluka levels. They will also be appointed as expert mentors when required.

The list includes teachers from both rural and urban areas. It covers teachers working in Zilla Parishad, municipal corporation and aided schools.

Turning to the district figures, Pune has 487 teachers selected, followed by Solapur with 260 teachers on the list. Nashik has 245, Ahilyanagar 237 and Satara district 226 teachers chosen as Idol Teachers.

On the other hand, some districts have far fewer teachers on the list. Gadchiroli has 49, Gondiya 46, Bhandara 35, Nandurbar 25, Parbhani 17 and Washim 16.

Overall, the SCERT list identifies teachers whom the department will go on to engage in training and mentoring work, so that their methods reach other teachers and the standard of children's education improves.
