Padoli police have booked a man and an unidentified associate after a sand transporter alleged he was assaulted, threatened with death and made to write on stamp paper over a money dispute.

A sand trader was called to a spot in the Padoli police station area of Chandrapur taluka, beaten, threatened with death and forced to write on stamp paper, according to a complaint filed with police. The complainant said the incident arose from a money transaction and accounts. Padoli police have registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against a main accused and his associate. The incident has caused a stir among sand traders.

The complainant, Deepak Rangrao Rathod (43), is originally from Dhanoli Tanda in Korpana taluka and currently lives in Gaurakshan ward, Ballarshah. Rathod has been in the sand transport business for many years. Through this business he came to know Bhupendra Gulabrao Meshram, a Chandrapur resident. The complainant said the two helped each other with money in times of need.

Three months ago, Rathod gave Meshram Rs 10 lakh for work connected with a sand ghat. It was agreed that the money would be returned within a month and a half. On November 2, 2026, at around 2.30 pm, Meshram phoned Rathod and said, "Come and take your Rs 10 lakh." He also sent a location. Rathod went by car with his friend Deepak Aswani to Chacha ka Dhaba at Chorala, near Binba Gate.

According to the complainant, Meshram was present there along with Parag Babanrao Oichwar (resident of Chamorshi, Gadchiroli district), Dinesh Shrigiriwar and Firoz Sheikh. As Rathod got out of the car and went closer, Oichwar began hitting him with fists for no reason, he alleged. When Rathod resisted, he was abused and threatened: "Chup baith nahi toh jaan se maar dunga." He also said an unidentified person with Oichwar beat him severely on the hand and thigh with a stick, the complaint states.

After the beating, an account of the money was demanded. Rathod then said that through his mediation Oichwar had given Rs 10 lakh to Mangesh Kadam of Nanded and Rs 13 lakh to Sachin Gharghate of Chandrapur. Angered, Oichwar said, "Now you give me that money," the complainant alleged, and had stamp paper brought there and forced Rathod to write on it. Rathod said he was then taken to an advocate in Ramnagar and the document was notarised immediately.

Rathod was badly frightened by the episode. He went with his friend to Ramnagar police station and narrated what happened. He was advised to go to Padoli police station as the spot falls in its jurisdiction. He then lodged a detailed complaint at Padoli police station.

On the complainant's oral report, police have registered a case against Parag Babanrao Oichwar and an unidentified person with him under sections 3(5), 352, 351(2), 118(1) and 115(2) of the BNS 2023. Sub-inspector Devanand Subhash Kekan is investigating the case. No arrest has been reported so far.
