The SUV market in India could see heavy competition in the coming period. Renault, Honda, Tata Motors and Nissan are reportedly working on new SUV models to take on the Mahindra XUV 7XO. Some of these vehicles may reach the market in 2027.
The upcoming SUVs could offer modern features, premium interiors, larger touchscreens, panoramic sunroofs and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These options could matter to buyers planning to purchase a new 7-seater SUV.
The first is the Renault Boreal, which is being talked about as the company's upcoming 7-seater SUV. The model coming to India may carry design elements similar to the Renault Duster. Likely features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, wireless connectivity, Level 2 ADAS and six airbags. Powered and ventilated seats may also be offered. The vehicle could arrive in early 2027, with an estimated on-road price in Mumbai of Rs 16 lakh to Rs 24 lakh. Official confirmation of the India launch and features is still required.
The second is a new 7-seater SUV from Honda, which could compete with models such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the Tata Safari. It may get a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain. A 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, wireless connectivity, Level 2 ADAS and six airbags are likely. The launch could happen in early or mid-2027, with an estimated on-road price in Mumbai of Rs 14 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Honda has not officially announced the model, so this information rests on preliminary estimates.
The third option comes from Tata Motors. The company could bring new-generation versions of the Harrier and the Safari in 2027, with major changes expected in design, technology and the cabin. Likely features include a 14.5-inch touchscreen, updated ADAS, a digital IRVM and a 540-degree camera. The vehicles are estimated to grow by 100 mm to 200 mm in length. There is no official information on the engines of the new models. The estimated on-road price in Mumbai is Rs 16 lakh to Rs 32 lakh for the Harrier and Rs 17 lakh to Rs 35 lakh for the Safari.
The fourth is from Nissan. Given its partnership with Renault, Nissan may also bring a 7-seater SUV based on the Tekton. It is likely to get a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine that could produce 160 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque, along with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Features could include a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a panoramic sunroof, wireless connectivity, six airbags and Level 2 ADAS. The likely price is Rs 14 lakh to Rs 24 lakh, and the vehicle is expected to arrive after the Renault Boreal.
If these models enter the market in 2027, competition in the 7-seater SUV segment could intensify, giving buyers more options to compare on features, engines, safety and price.
