Japanese carmaker Nissan is preparing to bring a new seven-seater family SUV to the Indian market. SUVs are growing more popular in India by the day, and seven-seaters are especially liked by large families. The company is making the move with this customer need in mind. The vehicle is much talked about at present and is expected to reach the Indian market by 2027.
The car will compete directly with the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar.
The new seven-seater SUV will be based on Nissan's popular Tekton SUV, and the two vehicles will share the CMF-B platform. The company has made clear, however, that it will not merely be an extended version of the Tekton. Its look, design and overall character will be quite different from the Tekton. Some spy shots taken during testing have emerged, which give an idea of its larger size.
The test car is fully covered in camouflage, yet its rear quarter panel and large glass show that it is considerably longer than the Tekton. This should help give third-row passengers legroom and comfortable space. At the front, the SUV is likely to get inverted-L-shaped LED DRLs and LED headlights. A new grille and bumper may also be provided. At the rear, boomerang-shaped LED tail-lights and a thick LED light bar will give the vehicle a modern look.
On the engine, it is very likely to get a 1.3-litre, four-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol engine for powerful performance, which should suit this heavy vehicle. Transmission options are likely to include a six-speed manual and a six-speed wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The SUV may come with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup.
The ex-showroom price of Nissan's new seven-seater SUV is estimated to be between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 22 lakh. Nissan earlier brought the seven-seater X-Trail to India, but it proved quite expensive because it came in through the CBU route. The auto industry therefore hopes that the upcoming SUV could prove a game-changer for the company in the Indian market.
