Actors Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda recently appeared together in Season 9 of Koffee with Karan. The two spoke openly about their relationship and their decision to marry. After the show aired, however, they were heavily trolled on social media, with Vijay in particular being targeted.

Rashmika did not stay silent. She wrote a long Instagram post in reply to the trolls. She said she did not like her husband being spoken of badly, and stated plainly that no one has the right to comment on their personal life. Her fans have since offered her strong support.

She usually does not respond to such criticism, she said, because she believes everyone has the right to express an opinion. At times she even likes reading those views and gaining a different perspective. But the uproar over this interview, she said, looks less like people expressing opinions and more like an angry mob eager to vent its rage on someone. Somewhere along the way, she said, the original point was lost.

Her profile and Vijay's were flooded with needless opinions, comments and unsolicited advice. Rashmika admitted she was genuinely a little shocked by the confidence with which people pounced on them.

On the show, Karan Johar had asked who proposed. Rashmika had said that while they were sitting at an airport, she was the first to raise the subject of marriage and told Vijay they should get married. Vijay had replied that she should ask him a hundred times and only then would he say yes. She had also said she raised the subject repeatedly over a year before the final decision to marry in February 2026 was made.

In the post, she now says people have misunderstood the point of that conversation. How many times she asked, or how long Vijay took to decide, never mattered. According to her, neither of them was looking for a grand proposal. He felt the two should take time and space to be sure that, despite life's ups and downs, joys and stresses, this is what they want and this is the right time. In the end, she said, they made the decision together.

She writes that she is emotional and he is a thinker, and that this is exactly what their life needs. For her, marriage was not about going down on one knee or slipping a ring on a finger, which is merely for show. Marriage meant building a life and a future together, she said firmly. She also asked since when loving one's partner deeply had become a bad thing.

Asking why anyone would marry someone they do not love, she said he is going to be her lifelong companion, her friend and the father of her children. She said she would ask him to marry her not a hundred times but a thousand. She noted that the two have built their lives on their own terms and through hard work, and are free to decide whom to live with. If their love does not fit your idea of love, that is fine, she said, adding that she will keep applauding for everyone's happiness.
