Ageing brings wrinkles and changes in the body, as everyone accepts. But some people give no hint of their age. Karisma Kapoor is among the best examples. At 52, she looks so fit and beautiful that people are left surprised.
Kapoor recently appeared in the first episode of the ninth season of Karan Johar's show 'Koffee with Karan'. Her look surprised everyone. Even after so many years, she appeared as young and energetic as ever. The question on everyone's mind was what the secret of her fitness is.
Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar has answered it. In an Instagram post, she explained what is really behind Kapoor's fitness.
Many people say Kapoor stays fit because she eats curd rice every day. According to Diwekar, this is not entirely true. Nobody stays fit by eating just one thing. Kapoor has followed good habits for many years, and this is the result. Nobody becomes fit overnight; it takes years of effort.
Diwekar says staying fit is easy at 20. Food gets digested and weight does not rise quickly. But after 30 the game changes. Hormonal changes begin in women's bodies. Weight starts to rise, fat collects especially around the belly and waist, and the shape of the body changes. She says women should start taking care from the age of 30 and should not wait for 40.
In her view, many women today are fixated on what the weighing scale says. Diwekar calls this wrong. Her advice is to think not about losing weight but about how to keep the body strong and active.
For this, she offers a simple guideline: exercise for at least three hours a week. Do whatever you can manage. Brisk walking, light weight training, yoga or strength training, anything will do. Just move the body. This strengthens the bones, nourishes the body and keeps you from tiring as you age.
According to Diwekar, in the name of health many women stop eating rice, give up rotis, cut out sugar entirely and skip dinner. She calls this the biggest mistake.
Do not put yourself through needless hardship in the name of dieting. The body needs rice, roti and carbohydrates. Cutting them out completely lowers the body's levels of vitamin D, B12, iron and calcium. This leads to fatigue, hair fall and irritability. Eat a balanced diet instead. Eat simple home food such as dal-rice, vegetables with roti and curd, but in moderation. Enjoy your food and look after your body too.
Diwekar says Kapoor has done exactly this. She never dieted by going hungry. Good food, a little exercise every day and a good lifestyle are the real secret of her fitness. Diwekar says that if you also want to look fit after 50, adopt these habits now.
