Nagpur police crack five cases, including MD drugs, fake notes, house dacoity and jeweller's shop robbery

Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil announced arrests in five separate cases, from an MD drug haul worth over Rs 1.54 crore to an attack on an 82-year-old woman.

Nagpur police have acted in five separate cases involving drug trafficking, counterfeit notes, a house dacoity, a robbery at a jeweller's shop and an assault. Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil announced this at a press conference at the Nagpur city police commissionerate on Monday, October 26, 2026. Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, DCP (Crime) Deepak Agrawal, ACP Vaibhav Jadhav and other senior officers were present.

The first case concerns MD drug trafficking in the Beltarodi area. Crime Branch Unit 5 raided the spot and arrested five accused. According to police, the unit received reliable information about an MD powder trade at around 4.20 pm on October 24, 2026. Acting on it, a raid was carried out in the presence of panch witnesses at a flat on the third floor of Vijaya Apartment, near the Bharat petrol pump on Ring Road in Narendra Nagar. Aniket alias Annu Bihare, Tufansingh Sisodia, Krishna alias Pahalwar Verma, Rahul alias Bhaya Gond and Shubham alias Doraemon Narwariya were found there. The search yielded 1,405 grams (1 kg 405 g) of MD powder, six mobile phones, Rs 3,44,700 in cash, a Verna car, four two-wheelers and an electronic weighing scale. The total seized property is worth Rs 1,54,50,700.

Police allege that questioning revealed the supply and sale of MD powder in Nagpur was being run on the instructions of Vishal alias Fallu Prithvilal Gupta. Police say the accused brought drugs from a network linked to Rajasthan and passed them to small sellers in the city. Six accused, including Kunal Dashrath Mamudre, have been arrested in this case, and the search for the remaining suspects continues.

Police describe Vishal alias Fallu as a notorious MD smuggler. He is the main wanted accused in the attempted murder case involving firing on corporator Shubham Motghare in the Bhandewadi police station area, in which MCOCA sections have also been invoked. According to police, cases of murder, attempted murder, MCOCA and the NDPS Act are registered against him at various police stations. He had been absconding for a long time and was living at different places under a concealed identity. Crime Branch Unit 5 traced his location to Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu through technical analysis and confidential information. After surveillance there, Vishal and Padhraag alias Sanu, a woman friend who was with him, were taken into custody. Both were produced before a local court, which granted transit remand, and they are being brought to Nagpur. Police are now investigating the source of the seized drugs, the suppliers and the buyers.

The second case is from Wathoda, where police seized material worth Rs 37,83,600 on suspicion that counterfeit Indian currency notes were being prepared in a rented house. Pushpam Krishna Bandane, 29, has been arrested. The landlord, Ramesh Gangadhar Harde, had complained that he had rented the first floor of his house in Three Star Co-operative Society to Bandane. Two months' rent was unpaid and Bandane could not be contacted. At about 11.30 am on October 24, he went to ask for the rent and got no response when he knocked. Fearing something had gone wrong, he opened the door with another master key and found papers resembling Rs 500 notes scattered on a sofa in the hall. He informed the police at once.

In their search, police found printing resembling Rs 500 notes on many sheets, some printed on one side and some on both. An ASUS laptop, an EPSON colour printer, two paper cutters, bottles of ink in different colours and blank paper were also recovered. Police said the face value of the sheets printed on both sides was assessed at Rs 37 lakh and that of the sheets printed on one side at Rs 48 lakh. These figures are the amounts printed on the paper and should not be taken as equal to real currency or actual financial loss. Police are now trying to establish where and for what purpose the notes were to be used, and whether anyone else was involved.

The third case is a house dacoity in Gittikhadan. According to police, at about 12.30 am on October 23, 2026, four or five unidentified men entered a house in Purva Residency, Netaji Co-operative Society, Friends Colony, through the stairs to the upper floor. Soumya Subramaniam Paluru, 38, was asleep in the house with her 14-year-old son. The intruders threatened them by showing knives and other weapons and asked where the money was kept. The woman said there was no money and they could search if they wished. When the mother and son shouted, one of the men grabbed the son by the neck. The men took away two mobile phones, said to be worth about Rs 60,000, and also tried to snatch a gold chain from the boy's neck. As the noise grew, they fled through the gallery.

Gittikhadan police went through CCTV footage from the area and identified suspects with the help of confidential informers. Sumet alias Chhota Somkuwar, Akash Meshram, Bhushan Alone, Nikhil Dubey, Piyush Goswami and Sheikh Tauheed alias Yedabhai have been arrested, and a child in conflict with the law is also in custody. According to police, the main accused, Sumet, had been an office boy at the woman's husband's office for about four years. He allegedly knew that the husband brought office money home and kept it there. Police say that six or seven days before the incident, on learning that a large sum was in the house, he planned the dacoity with his associates. Both looted phones, the vehicles used in the crime and other items have been seized, with a total value put at Rs 2,60,200.

The fourth case is the robbery at Dhomne Jewellers in the MIDC police station area. Police have arrested one more wanted accused, Guptkeel Manir Ahmed, 34. Police have seized property worth Rs 53,75,000 in the case overall. According to police, between 4.40 pm and 4.55 pm on October 3, 2026, four unidentified men entered the shop, which is on Hingna Road opposite Mahakali Bar. Shubham Hadge, an employee of shop owner Rakesh Subhash Dhomne, was there at the time. The men showed something resembling a gun and threatened to kill, looted about 350 grams of gold and silver jewellery, and fled after beating the employee. The jewellery was initially valued at about Rs 40 lakh.

MIDC police and the Crime Branch investigated in parallel. Information on the suspects was gathered through technical analysis, AI-based analysis and help from local police in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Abhishek Singh Thakur, Jairam alias Joginder Thakur, Shubhankit Chaturvedi and Rajan Sami Sharma had been arrested earlier. According to police, 165 grams of the gold sold to jewellers in Uttar Pradesh and 70 grams of silver from another goldsmith have been recovered. Three mobile phones, a Ketta car, a black Thar, a Toyota Fortuner, a Pulsar motorcycle and jewellery have also been seized from the accused.

The fifth case is an attack on an 82-year-old woman in the Sadar police station area. According to police, at about 9.30 pm on October 16, 2026, Hilda Alexander Anthony, who lives near Alex Mechanical Works at Gaddigodam on Kamptee Road, was at home. An unidentified man aged about 25 to 30 came and rang the bell. When the woman opened the door, he had a cloth tied over his face and allegedly struck her on the head with a wooden stick. When she screamed, family members living upstairs rushed down and the attacker fled. The injured woman was taken to Kingsway Hospital.

Crime Branch Unit 2 took Clement alias Rohit Eugene Pillay, 35, a resident of Kirad Layout, Mankapur, into custody through technical analysis. Police say he confessed during questioning to a role in the attack. Further questioning revealed five cases in all, including a theft in the Sadar area, a house break-in in Mankapur and a forced theft and molestation case in Gittikhadan. He has been handed over to Sadar police for further action.

According to the police commissionerate, teams from different police stations and the Crime Branch investigated the five cases, using technical analysis, CCTV footage, confidential information and coordination with police in other states. The final decision on the charges against the accused will be made in court on the basis of evidence and legal process. Police said further investigation continues in all the cases.
