Nitesh Tiwari's "Ramayana" is considered the biggest film in Bollywood at present, and many are waiting eagerly for it. Ranbir Kapoor will be seen as Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita. A major update about the film's second part has now emerged, and fans have been shocked by it.
It had earlier been decided that the film would come in two parts: the first in 2026 and the second exactly a year later, in Diwali 2027. Audiences were therefore not going to have to wait long. The first part is titled "Ramayana: Rise of a Legend". It will release in theatres on November 5, and there has been no change in that.
However, according to the latest information, producer Namit Malhotra has decided to bring the second part directly in Diwali 2028 rather than in 2027. The gap between the two parts will thus be two years, not one.
The reason for the decision is also a big one. The makers asked themselves what the hurry was. According to sources, "Ramayana" is not just a film for Namit Malhotra but his dream. He wants to make it a world-class film. He wants VFX in the film on the scale of Hollywood's "Avatar" and "Avengers", and does not want to compromise on anything.
The real story of the Ramayana begins in the second part. The war, Ravana and the vanara sena will all be in the second part. That will require a huge amount of VFX work. Shooting, editing and graphics take a great deal of time. The producer's view is that it is better to take time and make a good film than to spoil it by rushing. He needs more time to work closely on every scene and every frame. He wants to give Indian audiences an experience they will not have seen in a film so far.
With a two-year gap between the two parts, more responsibility now rests on the first part. The first part will introduce Ram, Sita and the other characters. It will show how the story began.
Only if audiences like the first part and it does well at the box office will they wait two years for the second. It will therefore be important to see how the first part, releasing on November 5, turns out and whether people like it.
The makers have not yet officially announced a 2028 date. But Diwali 2028 is their target. Viewers will have to wait a little longer, but the hope is that they will get a good film.
