Rajura API accused of abusing leaders, family in police station row
All-party leaders demand action after assistant police inspector allegedly abused a corporator's family and a missing girl's mother at Rajura police station
Serious allegations have been made against Assistant Police Inspector Yogesh Patil, posted at Rajura police station in Chandrapur district. All-party leaders are furious over allegations that he misbehaved and used abusive language against the family of woman corporator Mangala Mokde, and spoke disrespectfully to the mother of a missing girl. A complaint has been filed directly with the district superintendent of police demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against the guilty.
The complaint letter was submitted to the Chandrapur district superintendent of police through the police inspector of Rajura police station. According to the complaint, on September 19, 2026, Kunal Mokde was called to Rajura police station for questioning in connection with a family dispute. At Kunal's request, Harjeetsingh Sandhu, president of Rajura city Congress and a former corporator, went to the station between 1 pm and 3 pm to inquire about the matter. The complaint states that during this time, Assistant Police Inspector Yogesh Patil misbehaved, saying things like "who is Dhote, who is Bhongale, all these leaders deserve to be abused." It is alleged that he also abused and beat Kunal Mokde, and made insulting remarks about local public representatives.
Separately, in a case registered at Rajura police station on August 18, 2026 regarding the disappearance of 14-year-old Harshali Satyapal Mohule, her mother Ashwini Satyapal Mohule had gone to investigating officer Yogesh Patil to inquire about her daughter. According to the complaint, instead of being given proper information, she was spoken to rudely. It is alleged that instead of being handled sensitively and updated on the investigation, the distressed mother was subjected to abusive language, and a separate inquiry into this matter has also been demanded.
The complainants say ordinary citizens, especially women and economically weaker families, come to police stations hoping for justice, and should be treated with sensitivity, respect and within the bounds of the law. They said that if allegations of misbehaviour are being made, senior officers must take them seriously. They have demanded a fair investigation into the entire matter to verify the allegations, legal and departmental action against the officer concerned if found guilty, and a serious and swift investigation into the missing minor girl's case.
A copy of the complaint has also been sent to the chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Member of Parliament Pratibhatai Dhanorkar, Rajura MLA Devrao Bhongale, the Chandrapur district collector and the Rajura sub-divisional police officer. The complaint letter warns that if the matter is not addressed and appropriate action taken immediately, the taluka Congress committee and all-party leaders will launch a sharp agitation.
Those present on the occasion included Yuvak Congress district president Shantanu Dhote, women's district president Kundatai Jenekar, women's taluka president Nirmala Kudmethe, city president Harjeetsingh Sandhu, city president Sandhyatai Chandekar, NCP taluka president Ashif Sayyed, Santosh Derkar, Pranay Dhote, BJP office-bearer and corporator Bhupesh Meshram, corporator Ejaz Ahmed, Poonam Girsawale, Annutai Sandhu, Nita Bankar, Farina Sayyed, Mangala Mokde, Poornima Soyam, social worker Sangeeta Dhote, Sumitrabai Kuchankar, Mangala Hande, Pranay Lande, Madhukar Jhade, Sanghpal Dethe, along with a large number of women and citizens from the city.
